I may not be the biggest sports fanatic, but I love sport and I love watching games – especially live games.
I love how sport has the most amazing ability to unify people and bring out the fiery passion and dedication in people.
Tamsyn Brown from Good Hope FM and I were recently invited to be on the DHL Yellow Couch on the Try Line at Newlands to watch the DHL Stormers take on the Sharks. We ran a twitter competition where someone could win a seat next to each of us on the couch.
We arrived on the sunny Saturday afternoon, met our winners who were huge fanatics and awesome guys – Richard Tasker and Shirwyn Weber, ate burgers, drank beer and cider and were then escorted to our seats – the best seats in the stadium.
I didn’t know what to expect and I knew we were going to be on a yellow couch, but I don’t think I had really grasped the idea that it was literally on the field, right by the try line. It was surreal and I felt like I was in one of those commercials advertising those TV’s where you feel you’re a part of the game and one of the players.
We got involved with the Mexican waves, screaming our support, throwing our hands up as if we were the coach and laughing. My stomach was sore the next day.
Of course the experience was made even better when the DHL Stormers beat The Sharks 22-15.
Thank you so much to Go4Word and the DHL Stormers for an incredible experience and all the fun.
