Whilst many ZAlebs are swimming deep in love waters, taking advantage of February- the month of love to show off their plus ones and throwing around hints of marriage, television personality Bonang Matheba who turns 32 in June is the odd one out in Celebville.
Queen B as Bonang is affectionately known revealed that she is not planning on getting married and having babies anytime soon, if ever.
Bonang’s last relationship with rap super star AKA ended in a messy breakup which saw the rapper throwing shade at his former partner in songs. With AKA, everyone thought that Celebville had found a new power couple, alas AKA had other ideas- that of returning to his baby mama, DJ Zinhle.
Talking at the #WeSeeEqual Gender Equality Summit hosted by UN Women in Mumbai, India Bonang revealed that she wants to achieve a number of personal goals before she starts of thinking about getting married as a way of empowering herself and other women.
Bollywood actress Richa Chadha and Egyptian star Amina Khalil also joined the South African on the list of panelists which touched the topic- The Unstoppable Girl - Rewriting the Rules session.
"We always teach girls that they must aspire to be a wife or mother. I turn 32 in June, the one thing I always get asked is 'when are you getting married?' 'When are you having children?"
She added that society downplay efforts by females and consider a woman’s success is dependent on a man or husband.
"I don't have a husband and children. That will come at a later stage. Why is it that the things that I have achieved with the help of my mom and sisters can't be celebrated? Why does it have to be validated if there is a man next to me? To enable girls to be unstoppable we have to give them access to education,"
Meanwhile Bonang has many things she is venturing into, she is expected to feature in a documentary called Public figure this year, Produced by Brian Corso.
Fans should also expect Being Bonang season three and also more surprise elements from Queen B.
