Dj Maphorisa has broken his silence on why he stopped producing Gqom'.

It is no secret that Amapiano has taken over the music scene in Mzansi. The distinctive genre (which is a hybrid of deep house, infused with jazz and lounge music) has been causing quite a havoc recently.

Since it's debut, Amapiano has had partygoers around the country on their feet and swinging their hips as it pumps through speakers. The distinctive sound has dominated airwaves and slowly structured itself into the street culture.

The genre has taken over from Gqom' which seems to have plummeted. And while many maintain that Gqom' fever has died, Durbanites have been certain that it is alive.

A fan recently begged  Dj Maphorisa to drop a Gqom project citing that Durbanites are still fascinated by Gqom' and they enjoy it. The Scorpion King revealed that Durban producers told him he's not from Durban and therefore should not dabble in the genre.
Maphorisa wasted no time and conducted a poll for his fans; posing the question  about the 'death' of Gqom'.

Producing Gqom' music has had its fair share of constantly hogging media headlines due to beef. Some have turned into sworn enemies due to jealously and their egos of embodying the fact that Gqom' is Durban's baby.
