Power has begun returning to customers in parts of Abia State after an outage lasting more than seven days, with restoration linked to the resumption of gas supplies to the Geometric Aba Power plant.
Restoration of supply
- The disruption began on July 29 across the Aba-Ring Fence Area after a shortage of gas to Geometric Aba Power Limited reduced electricity generation.
- Heirs Energies, the plant’s gas supplier, subsequently repaired damaged equipment at its facilities, allowing gas deliveries to the plant’s turbines to restart.
- Geometric Power Aba Limited said on Saturday that turbine generation had resumed and that Aba Power was progressively re-energising customer feeders in line with the generation capacity available.
Aba Power serves nine of Abia State’s 17 local government areas, making the interruption significant for households and businesses across the territory.
Separately, the Abia State governor said on Thursday that the government would begin deploying solar power to help reduce the impact of continuing electricity shortages in the state.
