Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated Olayemi Sanusi and Adenike Ademokun as commissioners, telling them to put the state’s interests ahead of private concerns, partisan divisions and regional affiliations.
At the Monday ceremony at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Abiodun said the new appointees must bring integrity, modesty, impartiality and dedication to public duty to their roles. He urged them to remain open to residents, carefully consider public concerns and handle government funds responsibly, saying their appointments should produce visible improvements in people’s lives.
The governor also stressed the need for consistency in government administration. He asked the commissioners to protect institutional memory, keep sound documentation and make sure programmes and projects already under way are carried through to completion.
Sanusi and Ademokun should study the administration’s policy priorities, assess the progress of existing initiatives and apply renewed drive, good judgment and accountability in their assignments, Abiodun said. “Public trust is strengthened when people see that those they have given leadership responsibilities understand their concerns and take action to resolve them,” he said.
He further called on them to work collaboratively, uphold the professional standards of the civil service and coordinate closely with the ministries, departments and agencies they will oversee.
“Your capacity to hear people out, build trust, take well-informed decisions and turn policies into results will shape the contribution you make to our shared mission,” Abiodun said. “Apply your experience, stay ready to learn and assist your colleagues as we pursue common goals.”
Public office, he added, should be judged by the challenges it resolves and the opportunities it opens up. Members of the State Executive Council have a duty to build on earlier gains, complete outstanding priorities and help create a more resilient and prosperous Ogun State.
Describing the current period as the closing phase of his administration, Abiodun said the months ahead would require speed, discipline, political maturity and sustained commitment to high standards.
“We have entered the final stage of this administration, and it calls for urgency, discipline, political maturity and a consistent drive for excellence,” he said. “Your appointments have come at an important time. You are joining an administration that has recorded considerable progress but still has major obligations to meet.
“Our record will be judged by the effects of the decisions we take and by how far our service has improved the lives of the people. We must therefore move through the remaining months with purpose and ensure that every opportunity is used effectively.”
Speaking for the two newly inaugurated commissioners, Ademokun thanked the governor for the confidence placed in them and said they would treat their appointments with seriousness. She pledged that they would give their full support to the administration’s efforts to maintain development momentum and improve the welfare of residents throughout Ogun State.
