Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest commercial lenders, has not explained how a customer’s deposits worth millions of naira allegedly disappeared from her account.
A video circulating online over the past two days features an unidentified woman who says she banks with Access Bank and claims that funds were removed from her account without her authorisation. She said the withdrawals began in October 2025, reducing a balance of roughly N3 million to nothing.
The customer said she had visited the bank several times to report the problem but was repeatedly informed that the matter was being investigated. In the video, she said bank officials had told her they had contacted the institution’s headquarters, yet she still had no access to her money. She appealed for assistance, saying that every naira had been taken from the account and that she had placed substantial trust in Access Bank.
Olakunle Aderinokun, Access Holdings Plc’s head of media and public relations, had not responded by Thursday afternoon to questions about the allegation. Access Bank had also released no formal statement on the case at the time of reporting.
Unverified claims circulating about the incident suggest that the customer’s Subscriber Identity Module, or SIM card, may have been linked to another individual’s account after a period in which it was inactive. No official confirmation of that explanation has been provided.
The president of the Bank Customers’ Association of Nigeria said the lender had a responsibility to give the customer a complete account of what happened to her deposits. He added that, if her allegation is accurate, she should promptly refer the case to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“Whatever the circumstances, the bank owes its customers full disclosure,” he said, advising the customer to escalate the matter to the central bank if her claims are substantiated.
