Kwara State’s Accord Party chapter says the Rainbow Coalition associated with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike will fail to win support in the state in the 2027 elections.
The position was set out in a Sunday statement issued by the party’s state publicity secretary, Olamilekan Esinrogunjo.
Quick facts
- Accord Party says the Rainbow Coalition has no meaningful grassroots base in Kwara.
- The party argues that the alliance has not presented a persuasive message for voters.
- It says the coalition is shaped by elite interests and personal political disputes rather than a common governing agenda.
- Accord Party questions the group’s approach to the 2027 presidential and governorship contests.
Esinrogunjo said the coalition lacks the local organisation needed to attract voters and has not articulated a clear platform capable of winning public confidence.
He argued that the alliance seems to reflect the ambitions of a small group of political figures and rivalries between individuals, rather than an agreed programme for running government.
The party also challenged the coalition’s electoral positioning ahead of 2027. It said reports that the group plans to oppose the Kwara government while backing President Bola Tinubu at the national level could undermine its standing with voters.
“It is inconsistent to present yourself as an opposition force in Kwara while urging those same voters to back the APC in the presidential election,” the statement said. “That inconsistency is among the Rainbow Coalition’s central weaknesses.”
