Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Jigawa State, has said Nigerians have endured prolonged economic pain since President Bola Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023, calling for faster and more durable action to ease pressure on households.
Criticism of economic policies
Nakudu, an ADC leader, made the remarks in a Facebook post on Sunday. He argued that the Tinubu administration’s policies and programmes had imposed hardship on the public, describing them as measures that work against ordinary citizens.
- He said the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress, had left many Nigerians facing worsening conditions after announcing the end of the fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023.
- He urged the government to introduce urgent interventions to tackle the economic strain linked to the subsidy removal.
- He maintained that the impact has continued to fall most heavily on everyday consumers.
Call for more lasting fuel-price relief
The Jigawa candidate said the administration’s announced one-month cut in fuel prices did not go far enough, arguing that Nigerians need relief that can be sustained rather than a temporary reduction.
Nakudu said the price reduction followed a recent recommendation by ADC presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to reinstate the fuel subsidy as a way of reducing public hardship.
“The one-month reduction in fuel prices announced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is a result of the recent proposal by the ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to restore the fuel subsidy to ease the suffering of Nigerians,” Nakudu said.
