The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is pursuing its lawful option to contest the ouster of its national leadership under David Mark and the cancellation of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy.
Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must act within the law before taking any consequential decisions.
In a statement, Shaibu said the ruling issued by Justice Peter Lifu at the Federal High Court in Abuja had been taken on appeal, meaning the judicial process should be permitted to run its course.
“The ADC is exercising its constitutional right to appeal,” Shaibu said. “The verdict is now before a superior court for review, and the legal proceedings must continue without interference.
“We expect INEC to abide by the law and take account of the pending case before reaching any major decision.
“To our members, supporters and Nigerians who have faith in democracy: remain calm, resilient and assured. This is not the end of the road.
“The ADC is deploying every available legal measure to defend its rights, and we will neither be intimidated nor diverted from that responsibility.
“Our resolve to serve Nigerians and defend their right to make their own choice remains unwavering.”
