Human rights campaigner Aisha Yesufu has urged mothers to caution their children against being recruited by politicians to manipulate the 2027 general election results.
In a message posted on her verified X account, Yesufu said she understood both the hardship of pregnancy and delivery and the pressures involved in raising children in Nigeria. She said public anger over the country’s economic difficulties was understandable and justified.
The BringBackOurGirls co-convener warned that people used to seize ballot boxes or instigate election violence could lose their lives, as voters were prepared to protect their ballots.
“My dear sisters, we know the pain of labour and childbirth, as well as the wahala of raising children. Citizens are angry, and they have every reason to be,” Yesufu said. “If your child is among those being used to rig elections, warn that child. Do not allow corrupt politicians to turn your child into a statistic.”
