The Arewa Consultative Forum has called on Nigeria’s Federal Government to explain clearly what the country will receive under a reported $700 billion minerals agreement with the United States.
Professor Tukur Mohammed-Baba, the forum’s national publicity secretary, made the demand in a Saturday interview on Arise Television, arguing that the authorities must disclose the arrangement’s full terms.
“The government must explain to Nigerians what the country is entering into through this agreement,” he said.
Mohammed-Baba said citizens were entitled to understand the conditions of the pact, its expected gains and the wider consequences of an agreement of that scale.
He argued that a transaction valued at $700 billion should not be handled behind closed doors, particularly while many Nigerians are dealing with difficult economic conditions.
Nigeria signed a critical-minerals framework with the United States on September 23, 2026, at Nigeria House in New York, during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Mohammed-Baba urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to publish the complete agreement, saying openness would help prevent public suspicion and distrust.
He said the Arewa Consultative Forum would continue pressing for transparent and accountable government.
