Paul Ibe, spokesperson for African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw from his re-election campaign and receive medical treatment, arguing that footage from a campaign event in Kaduna State showed the president was not fit to govern.
Call for medical attention
- Ibe responded to a widely circulated video from the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign launch in Kaduna State, saying it raised concerns about Tinubu’s physical condition.
- He urged Tinubu’s family to put the president’s health ahead of electoral politics and ensure he receives appropriate care.
- “Tinubu is ill and requires medical attention,” Ibe said. “His family should make a dignified decision, in the interest of their husband and father, to take him out of the campaign and get him treatment.”
- He said medical care, rather than campaigning, should be Tinubu’s immediate priority, pointing to what he described as visible shaking in the video.
- “When you watch the viral footage, he appears to be shaking. That is not the appearance of a healthy man,” Ibe said.
- Ibe also alleged that organisers controlled the camera coverage to avoid close-up images of the president, saying the cameras did not zoom in on him and often moved away while he was speaking.
