Getafe coach Jose Bordalas has backed Spain winger Lamine Yamal to claim the 2026 Ballon d’Or, following his side’s 3-0 LaLiga loss to Barcelona on Saturday.
Bordalas said he expects Yamal to secure the individual prize later this month, describing the Barcelona player as an exceptional talent whose quality makes him extremely hard for opponents to contain.
“Everyone knows the level Lamine has. He is extraordinary. Even with preparations made to stop him, he is very difficult to control,” Bordalas said.
“He is an outstanding young footballer and he continues to demonstrate his ability. He will improve even further and has the capacity to win the Ballon d’Or. I have no doubt about that.”
Yamal is among the 30 nominees for the award and faces significant competition from Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
