Borno State Police Command has detained at least 103 people in a wide-ranging operation targeting street gangs, drug sales and other anti-social activity across the Maiduguri metropolitan area.
The suspects were apprehended during joint patrols and raids conducted by the Rapid Response Squad’s Social Vices Unit from October 29 through November 2, 2026.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said on Tuesday that the exercise was ordered by Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid. Personnel from the command worked alongside other security agencies during the operation.
Security teams carried out raids at identified crime hotspots in Gwange, Santiago, Texaco, Ajari, Budum, Shehuri, Bulabulin, Baga Road, Polo, Damboa Road, the Giwa Barracks vicinity, Jiddari and Moduganari.
Those taken into custody are suspected of offences including disorderly conduct, narcotics violations and illegal possession of weapons.
“The suspects are still being screened, and any person found responsible will be charged in line with the law,” Daso said.
Items seized in the operation included 889 wraps of Indian hemp, 104 wraps of Erinmo, seven packs of Colorado, two quantities of methamphetamine, commonly called Ice, eight bottles of Codeine syrup, 266 D5 tablets and 11 live rounds of ammunition.
Other recovered materials included 13 Diazepam tablets, 11 Tramadol tablets, seven Tramadol capsules, 300 Exole capsules, four ice bunkers, one bottle of Methylene Chloride, four knives, a cutlass, an axe, three Shisha-pot sets and 11 ice bulbs.
Abdulmajid praised the officers involved, citing their dedication, alertness and preventive approach to safeguarding the public. He said authorities would continue intelligence-based raids intended to break up criminal networks.
“The Command will continue intelligence-driven operations, step up efforts against unlawful drug trade and shut down criminal hideouts and networks that may endanger peace and security,” the police commissioner said.
He also called on residents to provide reliable information to the police to support crime prevention efforts across the state.
