Dangote Lifts Petrol Price to ₦1,265 as Nigeria’s Fuel Imports Climb

Dangote Refinery has lifted its gantry petrol price to ₦1,265 per litre as Nigeria faces a sharp increase in fuel imports.

Quick facts

  • Dangote Refinery’s petrol gantry price is now ₦1,265 per litre.
  • The adjustment occurred between August 21 and August 29, 2026.
  • Imports supplied 43.3 per cent of Nigeria’s petrol in July, while domestic output provided 56.7 per cent.
  • Petrol currently sells for ₦1,230 to ₦1,275 per litre at filling stations in Abuja.

Market checks found that the refinery had raised its wholesale petrol price to ₦1,265 per litre. The change was recorded during the period from August 21 to August 29, 2026.

Dangote Refinery has previously accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, or NMDPRA, of contributing to the rise in petrol imports.

Industry figures from the regulator show that imported fuel represented 43.3 per cent of petrol supply in July. Domestic production from Dangote Refinery accounted for the remaining 56.7 per cent.

The latest increase at the refinery could add pressure to pump prices. Petrol is currently retailing at between ₦1,230 and ₦1,275 per litre at filling stations across Abuja.
