Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Refinery and Dangote Group, said the 700,000-barrel-per-day facility could account for $100 billion of Nigeria’s economy by 2030, helping President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reach his $1 trillion national target.
Refinery Sets Out Economic Contribution
Dangote made the projection during a Wednesday visit to the refinery by Senator John Owan Enoh, the minister of state for industry. He said Tinubu’s ambition to expand the Nigerian economy to $1 trillion within the decade is attainable.
- The refinery has set a contribution target of $100 billion to the national economy.
- That figure represents 10% of the administration’s $1 trillion objective.
- The 700,000-barrel-per-day plant is positioned as a major part of Dangote Group’s support for the government’s economic plan.
Dangote Backs Tinubu’s 2030 Ambition
Dangote, described as Africa’s richest man, said the group had aligned its refinery strategy with the broader national vision. He explained that the company had effectively separated a $100 billion contribution from the wider $1 trillion goal so it could play a measurable role in delivering the target.
“The objective of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030 can be achieved,” Dangote told journalists. “We therefore identified $100 billion from that vision as the amount we can contribute, equivalent to 10%.”
Government Highlights Strategic Importance
Enoh said the refinery would be essential to Nigeria’s effort to attain the $1 trillion economic milestone, underscoring the facility’s importance to the country’s industrial and economic development plans.
