Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s former vice-presidential candidate, has responded sharply to criticism from supporters of Peter Obi, widely referred to as Obidients, saying they repeatedly target him for speaking openly about the party’s 2023 campaign and its presidential candidate.
Dispute over comments on Peter Obi
In an interview with Symfoni TV, Baba-Ahmed said Obi’s supporters had been quick to attack him whenever he made remarks they considered uncomfortable about Obi.
- He said Obidients were consistently ready to criticise him.
- He maintained that his comments reflected the truth as he sees it about Peter Obi.
- Baba-Ahmed warned that he could disclose further information he described as more damaging concerning Obi and the 2023 election if the attacks continued.
“Obidients are always eager to attack me. I have more damaging things to reveal. You attack me because I told you the truth about Peter Obi,” he said.
Labour Party loyalty and 2023 campaign claims
Baba-Ahmed said he remains committed to the Labour Party, but added that pressure from Obi’s supporters would not prevent him from speaking about events surrounding the 2023 election. He argued that many of those attacking him did not understand what took place during that period.
Row over ADC coalition discussions
The dispute follows Baba-Ahmed’s recent criticism of moves by Peter Obi to join a coalition linked to the African Democratic Congress, or ADC.
Those remarks triggered a backlash among Obidients, with some accusing Baba-Ahmed of turning against Obi and alleging that he was acting in the interests of former vice-president Atiku Abubakar.
