Fatai Okoya, who says he is the eldest son of billionaire entrepreneur Razaq Okoya, has publicly asked his father to forgive him and end a family separation that he says has lasted four decades.
Speaking during a TikTok Live broadcast on Monday with blogger Yeye Kudi Court Room, Fatai said the dispute stemmed from money taken from his father’s business and from his marriage to a woman he said his father did not approve of.
He said the estrangement began after he withdrew funds from the company, while arguing that the sum involved was not significant enough to warrant such a prolonged break in their relationship. Speaking in Yoruba, he said that if he had taken a large amount, he would have used it to acquire houses, aircraft and cars.
Fatai said he had repeatedly sought reconciliation over the past 40 years. “I have tried to make peace for 40 years,” he said.
He further alleged that he was blocked from speaking to his father at the businessman’s 86th birthday celebration. He said his father did not respond when he tried to approach him, leaving him to return to his seat.
Insisting that his appeal was not motivated by a desire for financial support, Fatai urged Razaq Okoya to pardon what he described as mistakes made in his youth and to restore family ties. He appealed to his father to recognise that he is now an adult and to use his experience as an elder to welcome the family back and bring the matter to a final resolution.
Fatai’s daughter, Zee, also said she hoped to help reunite her father with her grandfather. The host of the livestream urged Chief Kesington Adebutu, widely known as Baba Ijebu and described as a friend of Razaq Okoya, to help mediate between them.
