At least five well-known members of the Obidient Movement, which supports Peter Obi’s planned 2027 presidential run on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, have not been named to the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
The opposition party released the membership of its campaign body over the weekend as preparations continue for the January 16 elections. Several high-profile Obi supporters who helped drive voter mobilisation during the 2023 presidential contest were absent from the announced council.
Those not included are party figure Aisha Yesufu; political analyst Isaac Fayose; Moses Paul, widely known as Dr Mo; former Obidient Movement Secretary-General Precious Oruche, also called Mama Pee; and grassroots organiser Peter Akah, known as Randy Peter.
The omissions have drawn attention because of the roles these figures played in broadening Obi’s support during the 2023 general election campaign, particularly through grassroots and online mobilisation.
The announcement also prompted reactions on social media, where some users ridiculed Obidient Movement members, with Yesufu attracting much of the criticism. X user @JohnFanimoku wrote: “Aisha Yesufu, the perpetual ‘cashtivist,’ must be crying; NDC campaign funds are being paid into a designated account rather than private pockets. How will she manage?”
Lere Olayinka, media aide to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, also commented: “The NDC supreme national leader has completed the Campaign Council, yet Aisha Yesufu is not there. That is not good.”
