Alhaji Sharu Anka, a former chairman of Anka Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has quit the All Progressives Congress and defected to the African Democratic Congress, taking his political support base across the state with him.
Departure from the APC
- Anka disclosed his resignation in a letter issued on Tuesday, saying persistent internal disputes and what he described as an absence of fairness within the APC had compelled him to leave.
- He said perceived injustice, unequal access to political opportunities and divisions among party leaders had made his continued membership untenable.
- “I formally announce that I was compelled to leave the APC because of the widespread injustice, the denial of equal opportunities and the clear lack of unity and mutual understanding, particularly in the way the party’s affairs are managed,” Anka said.
- He further alleged that the party had failed to acknowledge members’ contributions, while a limited number of factions had gained excessive control over its operations.
- “There is a complete disregard for and failure to appreciate the contributions of party members, while certain cliques in the APC have made the party an unbearable family-and-friends arrangement,” he added.
- The former local government chairman said his followers throughout Zamfara State had joined him in moving to the ADC.
Political background
Anka is a long-serving grassroots political figure in Zamfara. He completed two terms as chairman of Anka Local Government Area and was appointed commissioner on four occasions, overseeing different ministries under successive state administrations.
