Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has set a new landmark in Turkish football after scoring in 10 straight Turkish First League matches, extending his prolific run with two goals and an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 away win over Muğlaspor on Thursday.
Record-breaking run in Turkey
Iheanacho’s performance at Muğla Atatürk Stadyumu helped Bursaspor secure a commanding victory and pushed his personal scoring sequence into double figures.
- The Nigeria international has now found the net in 10 consecutive Turkish First League fixtures.
- His streak moves beyond the records set by Galatasaray icon Metin Oktay and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı.
- Oktay scored in nine successive Süper Lig games for Galatasaray in the 1962–63 campaign.
- Sancaklı later matched that nine-game sequence while representing Kocaelispor in the 1995–96 season.
Before facing Muğlaspor, Iheanacho had already established a Bursaspor club record by scoring in nine matches in a row. That run overtook Fernandao’s previous eight-game scoring streak for the club during the 2014–15 season.
Goals and assist seal 3-0 win
The first half ended without a goal, although Iheanacho thought he had opened the scoring three minutes after the restart. The striker headed the ball into the net amid a crowded goalmouth situation in the 48th minute, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Bursaspor eventually broke through in the 58th minute, when Halil Akbunar supplied Iheanacho, who converted to give the visitors the lead.
- 58th minute: Iheanacho scored from Akbunar’s pass to make it 1-0.
- 73rd minute: The former Manchester City and Leicester City player struck with his left foot from inside the box to double Bursaspor’s advantage.
- 83rd minute: Hüseyin Maldar completed the scoring, turning in an assist delivered by Iheanacho.
Strong season contribution
The 3-0 result underlined Iheanacho’s importance to Bursaspor’s campaign. Across 10 appearances this season, the Super Eagles attacker has recorded 14 goals and three assists.
