Four political parties — the Social Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Action Alliance and Accord Party — were absent from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s published candidate register for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship race.
INEC released the list on Saturday, naming 15 governorship contenders and their deputies in the election to choose a successor to Governor Bala Mohammed when his term ends. The electoral body did not state why the four parties were excluded.
Quick facts
- INEC’s Saturday publication contains 15 governorship candidates and their running mates.
- The election will decide Governor Bala Mohammed’s successor in Bauchi State.
- SDP, NNPP, Action Alliance and Accord Party do not appear on the register.
- INEC and the parties concerned had issued no explanation at the time of reporting.
The missing entries have cast doubt over whether the SDP, NNPP, AA and Accord Party will take part in the 2027 contest. Their omission had not been clarified by either INEC or the affected parties as of the report’s filing.
Parties represented on the electoral commission’s list include the All Progressives Congress, African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, African Action Congress and Labour Party.
Also included were the Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Action Peoples Party, New Nigeria Democratic Congress, National Democratic Party and National Rescue Movement.
The publication comes as parties step up preparations for the Bauchi governorship election, a contest that will determine the state’s next administration after Mohammed leaves office.
