Jigawa State’s Peoples Democratic Party has urged its online supporters to avoid insults, personal abuse and inflammatory remarks as it begins preparing for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Mustapha Sule Lamido, the party’s governorship candidate in the state, delivered the message at a gathering of PDP social media activists and political commentators. He asked participants to centre their online engagement on public issues, policy proposals and the party’s political agenda instead of targeting rivals or private individuals.
“Our campaign should be based on issues, not personal attacks,” Lamido said, calling on supporters to promote peace and refrain from conduct that could breach electoral rules.
He said the session was designed to educate young people about responsible political communication and to encourage constructive methods of promoting the PDP. Lamido argued that campaigns should rely on ideas and policies that can build public trust, rather than abusive rhetoric or attacks on opponents.
The party also reiterated its intention to hold peaceful, orderly campaign visits throughout Jigawa State, pledging to avoid violence and needless provocation.
