Jigawa Police Detain Suspect, Recover Two Stolen Motorcycles

Police in Nigeria’s Jigawa State have detained a 24-year-old man suspected of stealing motorcycles and recovered two vehicles in separate incidents in Malam Madori and Shuwarin, as authorities step up efforts against vehicle-related crime.

The suspect, Saleh Muhammad of Dunari town, was arrested after the reported theft of a red Boxer motorcycle in Malam Madori at about 5 a.m. on October 19, 2026. Investigators traced Muhammad to Kashin Dila Junction following an immediate inquiry into the complaint.

Officers recovered the motorcycle from the suspect, who has been brought before a court to face prosecution.

In a separate case, personnel from the Shuwarin Division found a red Hunter motorcycle that had been left abandoned in Gwazaye village, within Kiyawa Local Government Area, on October 19, 2026. The vehicle had no registration number and was moved to the police station while investigations began.

On October 21, a 32-year-old man from Tunubu village in Jahun Local Government Area came to Shuwarin Police Division with ownership papers for the recovered motorcycle. He said unidentified thieves had taken it from his home on October 18 while he was asleep.

Police checked the documentation and established that the chassis and engine serial numbers corresponded with those on the recovered Hunter motorcycle. The vehicle was returned to its owner under bond, while investigators continue to seek those involved in the theft.

Police Commissioner Tijjani Murtala said the command remains focused on curbing motorcycle theft and other offences across Jigawa State. He called on residents to alert authorities to suspicious activity and share reliable information that can help prevent crimes and support investigations.
