Sani Hukuma Zauro Zannan Gwandu, chairman of the Kebbi All Progressives Congress Elders Forum, has called on political actors—especially those in opposition parties—to abandon hostility and personal insults as preparations begin for Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists in Zauro, Zannan criticised opposition parties for what he described as increasingly abusive rhetoric aimed at gaining political advantage. He said campaigns should be centred on policy proposals and election manifestos rather than attacks on rival politicians.
“The way the opposition is making offensive comments about APC administrations at the federal and state levels is unbecoming and amounts to blackmail,” he said.
Zannan alleged that some opposition figures were relying on reputational attacks and blackmail to weaken public confidence in officeholders. His intervention comes as political exchanges intensify between the governing APC and the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of Kebbi State’s 2027 governorship contest.
