Kebbi State Governor’s Special Adviser on Politics, Kabiru Sani Giant, has dismissed any prospect of the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, winning control of the state’s Government House in the 2027 election.
Speaking to journalists, Giant said the party’s alleged vandalism of All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign billboards and vehicles during its presidential campaign in Kebbi demonstrated that it was not fit to govern. He claimed that ADC supporters damaged government and APC assets after the party’s campaign convoy arrived in Kebbi from neighbouring Sokoto State.
“We were compelled to tell our supporters to protect much of the property in Birnin Kebbi from their violent conduct. We did not direct anybody to attack them. The clashes reported in certain locations were cases of self-defence,” he said.
Giant also alleged that the ADC’s governorship candidate was pursuing the office in order to obtain immunity from prosecution in connection with corruption allegations brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
He characterised the candidate’s bid as unviable, arguing that voters in Kebbi would return Governor Nasir Idris because of the performance of the current administration.
Giant also called on ADC members and supporters to defect to the APC, referring to a recent court ruling that he said nullified the candidacies of politicians aligned with the David Mark-led faction of the ADC.
