Power outages across large parts of Kano metropolis have been linked to damage on the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan’Agundi transmission line, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) said in a notice issued on September 23, 2026. The disruption began after an earth-fault relay tripped during a windstorm on the night of Monday, September 21. An inspection by engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) found several broken conductors and leaning cross arms along the line. The condition forced TCN to isolate the circuit, remove certain equipment and undertake repair and fabrication work. KEDCO said the damage had cut electricity to most customers in the Kano urban area, but that it was seeking to serve affected communities through alternative power sources while the transmission repairs continue. The distributor apologised for the interruption and said regular supply would resume after TCN completes the work.
