Two men have been detained in Kwara State over allegations that they ran an unlicensed private security business known as “Double Razzor,” in a case that highlights regulatory scrutiny of Nigeria’s private guard industry.
Investigation into alleged unlicensed security business
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested Abraham Stephen Job and Adebowale Qazeem Adeniyi following an inquiry into the activities of the security outfit.
Ayoola Michael Shola, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said the investigation concerns claims that the suspects operated the company without obtaining the required approval.
- The allegations include running a private security company without the necessary licence.
- The suspects are also being investigated over the provision of regulated guard services without statutory authorisation.
- Such activities are alleged to breach Nigerian laws and regulations governing private guard companies.
NSCDC stresses licensing role
The NSCDC said it has a legal mandate to license and supervise private guard companies in Nigeria. It warned prospective and existing operators that they must meet all applicable legal conditions before starting regulated security work.
Private security firms are widely used by businesses, event organisers and individuals, making licensing an important element of accountability, public safety and oversight in the sector.
Command pledges enforcement across Kwara
Kwara State Commandant CC Abbas Ndah Mohammed said the command would continue to enforce compliance requirements and move against unauthorised private security providers operating in the state.
He called on key users of security services to verify that providers are properly approved before hiring them.
- Event organisers were urged to use licensed security companies.
- Corporate organisations were advised to engage only authorised providers.
- Members of the public were similarly encouraged to confirm that security operators hold valid licences.
The command said it remains committed to cleaning up the private security industry, safeguarding lives and property, and strengthening accountability in security operations.
