The naira closed the week lower against the US dollar in both Nigeria’s official and parallel foreign-exchange markets. Central Bank of Nigeria figures put the currency at N1,329.51 to the dollar on Friday, compared with N1,328.67 a day earlier in the official market, representing a daily loss of N0.84 per dollar.
Trading outside the official channel also reflected a weaker naira, with the exchange rate moving to N1,390 per dollar from N1,385 on Thursday. Despite Friday’s decline, the currency finished N1.68 stronger against the dollar than a week earlier in the official market.
The latest exchange-rate movements came as Nigeria’s external reserves continued to build. Reserves rose to $54.86 billion as of September 24, 2026, extending their recent upward trajectory.
