Naira Firms Officially but Weakens Sharply in Parallel Market

The naira strengthened further against the US dollar at Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange market on Tuesday, with the currency closing at N1,320.25 compared with N1,320.56 on Monday. The move represented a daily gain of N0.31. In the parallel market, the naira was quoted at N1,490 per dollar, versus N1,400 a day earlier; the reported figures indicate a N90 weakening, despite the move being described as an appreciation of N10. The currency’s official-market performance came as Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves continued to rise, reaching $54.21 billion as of September 7, 2026. The naira had also advanced against the dollar on Monday, giving it a positive start to the week.
