
The naira ended the week stronger against the US dollar in both Nigeria’s official and parallel foreign-exchange markets, while the country’s external reserves continued to expand.
Currency movements
- At the official market, Central Bank of Nigeria figures showed the naira closing at N1,337.29 per dollar on Friday, compared with N1,338.59 on Thursday. The move represented a daily appreciation of N1.30.
- In the parallel market, the currency gained N7, reaching N1,400 per dollar from N1,407 a day earlier. The figures were provided by Abubakar Hassan, a Bureau de Change operator in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
- Over the week, the naira advanced by N9.20 in the official market and by N5 in the parallel market.
Reserve position
The currency gains came as Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves maintained their upward trend. Central bank data put reserves at $53.31 billion as of August 27, 2026.
