Naira Gains to N1,329.43 per Dollar as September Trading Begins

The naira strengthened against the US dollar at Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange window on the first trading day of September 2026, while the currency held steady in the parallel market.

  1. On Tuesday, the naira traded at N1,329.43 per dollar in the official market, improving from Monday’s N1,332.94 level. The move represented a N3.51 daily gain for the Nigerian currency.
  2. In the black market, the exchange rate was unchanged at N1,400 to the dollar, matching Monday’s quotation.
  3. The official-market advance came as Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves climbed to $53.81 billion at the end of August 2026.
  4. The naira had already posted an official-market gain on Monday, giving the week an initially stronger start.
