The naira strengthened further against the US dollar in Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange market on Wednesday, just before the October 1 Independence Day holiday. Figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed the currency closing at N1,329.16 per dollar, compared with N1,330.47 on Tuesday, representing a daily gain of N1.31. However, the naira held steady at N1,375 per dollar in the parallel market, several Bureau de Change operators in Abuja said. The contrasting movements meant the currency recorded mixed performance across Nigeria’s foreign-exchange segments ahead of the holiday and the start of a new month. Nigeria’s external reserves were reported at $54.92 billion.
