The naira continued to gain ground against the US dollar in Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange market on Tuesday, while its parallel-market rate was unchanged. Central Bank of Nigeria figures put the official exchange rate at N1,343.32 per dollar, compared with N1,349.54 on Monday, representing a daily improvement of N6.22 for the Nigerian currency.
Trading outside the official market showed no movement, with the naira holding at N1,405 to the dollar for a second consecutive day. The divergence between the two markets came as Nigeria’s external reserves reached $52.32 billion as of August 17, 2026.
The latest move extends a positive start to the week for the naira. Across the two most recent official-market trading sessions, the currency has strengthened by a combined N14.29 against the dollar.
