
The naira opened the week weaker at Nigeria’s official foreign-exchange market, slipping to N1,346.98 per US dollar on Monday from N1,346.43 on Friday. The move represented a loss of N0.55 ahead of Tuesday’s public holiday. In the parallel market, however, the currency strengthened by N5 to N1,410 per dollar, compared with N1,415 for much of the previous week. The official weakening came as Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves climbed to $52.83 billion as of August 21, 2026. The naira had finished the previous Friday’s trading session with a gain against the dollar.
