Nigeria’s aviation regulator has provided an update on an incident involving an Enugu Air aircraft at Benin Airport in Edo State, saying the event amounted to a runway excursion. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said the aircraft left the runway after landing, while confirming that everyone on board escaped without injury.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, said the Enugu Air plane skidded off the runway following touchdown. He added that all passengers and crew members exited safely and that there were no reported injuries. “They had a runway excursion. Yes, there was this skid off the runway after landing. Everybody is safe. There was no injury to any passenger. All passengers came out. Passengers and crew came out safe,” Achimugu said.
A separate confirmation also came from a Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) official who requested anonymity. That official likewise characterised the occurrence as a runway excursion. As of the time the report was filed, the reason the aircraft veered off the runway had not been established.
Enugu Air, the state-owned carrier based in Enugu, began commercial service on July 7, 2025. The latest update from the NCAA and FAAN comes as the airline continues its early operations.
