Nigeria Democratic Congress spokesman Osa Director has said the country would see renewed hope under presidential candidate Peter Obi, backing promises by Obi’s running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to bring down fuel costs if the party wins the 2027 election.
NDC pledges action on energy costs
Kwankwaso said Nigeria’s energy expenses had become excessively high and argued that the NDC would take the steps required to make fuel more affordable should Obi be elected president in 2027.
- He said the party’s shared view was that energy prices in Nigeria were too high.
- He said an Obi-led administration would pursue measures to lower fuel prices.
- Those measures could include restoring or otherwise using fuel subsidies, if necessary.
Speaking on Thursday, Kwankwaso said: “Our joint position is that energy costs in this country are too high. We will take whatever action is needed to bring fuel prices down, including doing what we can on subsidies.”
Director says Obi offers national hope
Responding to the running mate’s comments, Director said Nigeria would be in a better position under Obi’s leadership.
In a post on X, the National Publicity Secretary said: “Hope is coming. President Obi is on the way. Nigeria will be fine. A new Nigeria can happen; we can achieve it.”
