The Federal Government is considering an increase in the monthly pensions paid to retired Nigerian police officers, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of personnel who serve on the front lines of the country’s security challenges.
Muhammad Dutse, acting managing director of the Nigeria Police Force Pension, announced the move at an event on Monday. He said the Tinubu administration was working to ensure that officers who confront insecurity could retire with financially adequate pension benefits, and urged serving and retired personnel to remain patient.
Dutse said measures were already under consideration to raise retirees’ income, but declined to provide full details because the process is being handled by a presidential committee established by President Bola Tinubu. He expressed confidence that the initiative would produce positive results, adding that the government recognised the police’s central role in protecting the country and was therefore committed to improving officers’ take-home pay.
