Nigeria’s exports have risen by 25 percent over the past two years, reflecting policy changes under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and improvements in port operations, Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director Abubakar Dantsoho said in London.
Dantsoho said the export expansion had been recorded across multiple industries rather than being concentrated in one sector. He linked the broader increase in overseas shipments to government reforms introduced during the current administration.
“Nigeria’s exports have increased by 25 percent statistically over the last two years,” he said.
He added that operational upgrades at ports had also helped lift cargo-handling activity, supporting the movement of export goods through the country’s maritime gateways.
The NPA has put in place about four cooperation frameworks involving terminal operators, the Nigeria Customs Service and other relevant public agencies, Dantsoho said. The arrangements are intended to improve coordination between port stakeholders and make cargo clearance and processing more efficient.
He also said the authority had launched a simplified window system to streamline procedures at Nigerian ports.
Despite the reported progress in exports and port operations, Nigeria’s ports continue to face significant challenges.
