Cooking gas prices are set to ease in Nigeria after Dangote Refinery, LPG marketers and depot operators lowered their selling rates, though retail prices in Abuja remain substantially higher than depot levels.
Key takeaways
- Dangote Refinery cut its LPG gantry price by N30 to N950 per kilogram.
- 11PLC, formerly Mobil, NAVGAS, Ranoil and PPMC now charge between N955 and N960 per kilogram at the depot level.
- The reductions by depot operators range from N15 to N30 per kilogram.
- Ranoil, NNPC and Shafa filling stations sell LPG for between N1,300 and N1,450 per kilogram.
- Several other retailers around Abuja continue to charge N1,500 per kilogram, unchanged from July 2026.
Refiners and depots lower LPG prices
Liquefied petroleum gas, widely used as cooking fuel, is expected to become more affordable nationwide following a downward adjustment by major suppliers. Dangote Refinery reduced its gantry rate by N30, bringing the price to N950 per kilogram.
Depot owners and marketers responded quickly to the refinery’s move. 11PLC, previously known as Mobil, along with NAVGAS, Ranoil and PPMC, lowered ex-depot prices to a range of N955 to N960 per kilogram. Their individual cuts were between N15 and N30 per kilogram.
Retail gap remains wide
Despite the reductions upstream, prices at some filling stations remain considerably higher. Ranoil, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, or NNPC, and Shafa outlets were charging between N1,300 and N1,450 per kilogram.
Other LPG retailers in Abuja and surrounding areas continued to sell the product at N1,500 per kilogram, matching the level reported in July 2026.
The price adjustment follows a sharp rise in imports. Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority showed that cooking-gas imports increased by 1,400% in June.
