Nigeria’s Debt Management Office has commenced sales of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s October 2026 Savings Bonds, offering investors two- and three-year instruments at annual interest rates of 13.071% and 14.071%, respectively. The offer opened on Monday, October 5, 2026, and will remain available until Friday, October 9, 2026. Settlement is set for October 14, 2026.
The two-year bond is due for repayment on October 14, 2028, while the three-year instrument will mature on October 14, 2029. The DMO is issuing the securities for the federal government under the Debt Management Office (Establishment) Act 2003 and the Local Loans (Registered Stock and Securities) Act, CAP L17, LFN 2004.
Each bond unit costs N1,000. Investors must commit at least N5,000, with additional purchases made in increments of N1,000, subject to a total investment ceiling of N50 million. Coupon payments will be made every quarter, on January 14, April 14, July 14 and October 14, while the original investment will be returned in a single payment when the bonds mature.
The securities are recognised as eligible investments for trustees under the Trustee Investment Laws. They also qualify as government securities under the Company Income Tax Act and the Personal Income Tax Act, allowing pension funds and other eligible investors to benefit from tax exemption. The bonds will be quoted on Nigerian Exchange Limited and may be counted as liquid assets when banks calculate their liquidity ratios.
The DMO said repayment is supported by the federal government’s full faith and credit, with the obligation secured against Nigeria’s general assets. Investors wishing to participate should approach stockbroking firms appointed by the DMO as distribution agents. The debt office advised prospective subscribers to consult its official website for the names of authorised agents.
