
Nigerian equities opened the week higher on Monday, adding N288 billion in market value even as falling stocks outnumbered advancers.
Market performance
- Total capitalisation increased 0.18% to N158.614 trillion, compared with N158.326 trillion at the start of the session.
- The All-Share Index gained 446.85 points, or 0.18%, to finish at 245,283.68, up from 244,836.83 in the preceding session. The advance lifted the market’s year-to-date return to 57.91%.
- Despite the rise in the headline index, breadth was weak: 39 equities closed lower, while 25 recorded gains.
Biggest movers
Eterna Plc and Caverton Offshore Support Group were the strongest performers, each climbing 10% to N36.30 and N5.50 per share, respectively. Omatek Ventures advanced 9.88% to N1.78, while AVA Capital added 9.70% to reach N9.05. Vitafoam Nigeria rose 7.90% and ended at N194.00 per share.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, or ETI, suffered the sharpest decline, falling 9.95% to N80.10 per share. Cadbury Nigeria lost 9.92% to close at N58.10, and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria dropped 9.82% to N3.95. WAPIC Insurance declined 9.80% to N2.30, while Critical Minerals Financing Corp slipped 9.79% to N3.50 per share.
Trading activity
Market turnover softened, with 923.01 million shares changing hands in 72,544 transactions valued at N37.85 billion. Volume was 2.12% below the level recorded in the previous session.
Access Holdings Plc was the most active stock by volume, recording 166.64 million shares, equivalent to 18.05% of all shares traded. Aradel Holdings led by value, with deals worth N4.59 billion, or 12.12% of total turnover for the day.
