Troops deployed under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have secured the freedom of a civilian who was kidnapped in Nigeria’s Plateau State, with follow-up operations continuing to locate those responsible.
The civilian was seized on Cubana Street in Bassa Local Government Area. The abduction was reported at about 10:05 p.m. on October 18, 2026.
Quick facts
- OPEP personnel from Sectors 1 and 3 carried out the recovery mission.
- Searches covered Dutsen Kura, Rafin Bauna and Rafiki communities.
- The suspects escaped without encountering the troops during the operation.
- The victim was freed after sustained military pressure and returned to his family.
Forces from the two sectors launched a search-and-rescue operation shortly after the incident, combing nearby communities in an effort to find the abducted resident and trace the kidnappers.
Although soldiers did not intercept the fleeing suspects, continuing pressure on the group led to the victim’s release. The civilian was subsequently reunited with relatives.
Security teams remain focused on identifying and arresting the suspects. Operations will continue in the area to deter further abductions and strengthen local safety conditions.
