
Nigeria’s federal, state and local governments received a combined N15.997 trillion from the Federation Account in the first seven months of 2026, with July producing the largest monthly payout of the year at N3.007 trillion.
Allocations rise to almost N16 trillion
The distribution covers the Federal Government, all 36 states and 774 local government councils. The Federation Account Allocation Committee approved the July disbursement at a meeting in Owerri, Imo State, a statement issued on Tuesday by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, said.
Payments during the period were recorded as follows:
- January: N1.96 trillion
- February: N1.89 trillion
- March: N2.04 trillion
- April: N2.25 trillion
- May: N2.30 trillion
- June: N2.55 trillion
- July: N3.007 trillion
The first six months generated combined distributions of N12.99 trillion. July’s N3.007 trillion lifted the year-to-date total to N15.997 trillion.
July records strongest monthly increase
The July payment was N457 billion higher than June’s allocation, representing growth of 17.9 per cent. On average, the three levels of government received approximately N2.285 trillion each month between January and July, while July marked the peak allocation over the period.
Statutory revenue expands as VAT eases
Gross statutory revenue climbed to N4.359 trillion in July from N3.700 trillion in June. The N658.087 billion increase amounted to 17.8 per cent growth.
VAT performance moved in the opposite direction, with gross receipts edging down to N793.968 billion in July from N799.746 billion the previous month. That represented a reduction of N5.778 billion, or 0.7 per cent.
Government tiers receive at least N2 trillion monthly
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele had said that each tier of government collected no less than N2 trillion per month during the period under review.
