Air Peace flights were halted after Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) members shut and locked the airline’s terminals, disrupting departures at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport and other airports nationwide.
Quick facts
- An Air Peace service due to leave Lagos at 6:30 a.m. was unable to depart.
- The disruption followed a protest by Air Peace workers affiliated with the NLC.
- Passengers were left stranded as flights were delayed.
The stoppage affected flight activity across the country. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that the disruption was union-related.
Achimugu said he would provide more precise information after reaching the airport. “Yes, it is a union matter. I will have more factual details once I get there,” he said.
Passengers reported being caught up in the shutdown. An X user identified as YoufoundAlex said he was stranded at Lagos airport despite having a 9 a.m. appointment in Abuja that day, describing the protest as the cause of the airport closure and flight disruption.
Air Peace management had not issued a statement on the incident at the time of reporting. It also remained unclear whether the action had disrupted services operated by other airlines.
