The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has lowered petrol prices at some of its retail stations, although rates continue to differ by location. A Sunday check found that outlets in Gwarimpa, Kubwa and several other areas of Abuja and nearby communities were selling petrol at N1,405 per litre, down from N1,430. Stations on the Kubwa Expressway, at Air Junction and in Wuse Zones 4 and 5, however, maintained a price of N1,395 per litre. The variation means NNPCL customers in Abuja are paying as much as N10 more per litre depending on the outlet.
At the time of the check, MRS, Ranoil, AA Rano, Empire Energy and other fuel retailers across Abuja were charging between N1,395 and N1,430 per litre. The Dangote Refinery had cut its gantry price by N25 per litre the previous week, bringing it to N1,325. Most filling stations have not yet passed on that reduction, while consumers continue to demand cheaper petrol as West Texas Intermediate crude trades at $92 a barrel and Brent crude reaches $104 a barrel.
