NNPCL Lowers Petrol Price to N1,250 at Several Abuja Stations

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has lowered its pump price for premium motor spirit (PMS) to N1,250 per litre at several Abuja outlets, intensifying competition in the country’s retail fuel market.

NNPCL cuts Abuja price

A market check conducted on Tuesday found the new price at NNPCL stations in Gwarimpa, along Kubwa Expressway, and in Wuse Zones 4 and 6. The company previously sold petrol at N1,299 per litre, meaning the latest adjustment represents a reduction of N49 per litre.

  • Gwarimpa NNPCL outlet: N1,250 per litre
  • Kubwa Expressway NNPCL outlet: N1,250 per litre
  • Wuse Zone 4 NNPCL outlet: N1,250 per litre
  • Wuse Zone 6 NNPCL outlet: N1,250 per litre

The move followed reports that motorists had been avoiding NNPCL retail stations because the company’s petrol was priced above fuel sold by competing outlets.

Retailers had already reduced prices

Dangote Refinery-backed MRS, along with other filling-station operators in Nigeria, had previously lowered petrol prices by between N25 and N50 per litre. Those reductions placed their prices in a range of N1,210 to N1,275 per litre.

After NNPCL’s latest adjustment, petrol prices across Abuja and surrounding areas now generally range from N1,210 to N1,300 per litre.
