Nigeria’s state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has raised the retail pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the second time in under two days, according to a market check in Abuja. The company lifted petrol pricing to N1,335 per litre on Wednesday from N1,270 per litre on Tuesday, marking an additional N65 per litre increase at its filling stations.
Second rate hike in two days
The latest adjustment was applied at NNPCL retail outlets including stations in Wuse Zone 6 (Berger) and Zone 4, as well as other company outlets across Abuja and nearby areas.
NNPCL previously increased its petrol pump price on Tuesday, moving PMS up by N115 per litre to N1,270 per litre. With Wednesday’s further rise, the cumulative change over the two-day period reflects rapid price movement at the retail level.
Broader downstream volatility and external drivers
The renewed price changes come as petrol pricing remains unsettled across Nigeria’s downstream oil sector. The instability has been linked to shifts in supply and pricing dynamics after Dangote Refinery resumed the sale of refined petroleum products in U.S. dollars.
Separately, global crude market conditions also appeared to be strengthening. DAILY POST reported that crude oil prices climbed by roughly 4% on Wednesday, with airstrikes intensifying in the Middle East.

- Wednesday increase: N65 per litre added on top of the prior day’s level.
- Where it applies: Stations reported in Wuse Zone 6 (Berger), Zone 4, and other NNPCL sites in Abuja and surrounding areas.
