Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has urged President Bola Tinubu to extend his travels to Nigeria’s other 33 states after staying overnight in Akwa Ibom State.
Obi’s remarks followed Tinubu’s statement during his visit to Akwa Ibom, where the president said he intended to remain in the state for the night.
Addressing an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign gathering in Uyo, Tinubu said he would spend the night there for what he described as a “second-term presidential sleep.”
In a post on X, Obi welcomed Tinubu’s overnight stay in Akwa Ibom but called on him to meet citizens across the country directly. He wrote: “I sincerely hope this visit will inspire you to travel to the remaining 33 states of the federation, spend time with the people and, more importantly, explain what your administration has done with the N15.8 trillion saved from the removal of fuel subsidy, the over $100 billion you have borrowed, the increased revenues accruing to the government from taxing Nigerians, and the additional government revenues which your administration celebrated last year as having surpassed its target.”
