- He linked the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira to severe hardship across Nigeria.
- The politician said hunger, poverty and insecurity had reached unprecedented levels.
- He called on Nigerians to challenge poor governance and use the 2027 election to replace the current government.
- The Presidency had not issued a response when the report was filed.
Criticism of government policy and institutions
Speaking during an interview on MIC-ON with Seun Okinbaloye, Okonkwo said the Tinubu administration had failed to respect the country’s legal framework and democratic structures. “Tinubu’s government is a government of anarchy,” he said.
The Enugu-born politician, who previously built a career as a Nollywood actor, argued that the government’s economic programme had imposed major costs on Nigerians. He specifically cited the end of the petrol subsidy and the decision to allow the naira to float, measures that have contributed to higher fuel prices, rising transport costs and broader inflationary pressure.
Call for action ahead of 2027
Okonkwo said the country was facing a level of food scarcity, insecurity and poverty that he believed had not previously been as severe. He urged citizens to openly oppose what he called ineffective governance rather than remain silent.
He also encouraged Nigerians to prepare to vote out the Tinubu administration in the 2027 elections. The Presidency had not responded publicly to Okonkwo’s remarks at the time the report was filed.
